When Marketplace asked Patrick Rishe about the potential of advertising brand-fatigue among NBA sports fans, Olin’s director of the sports business program, said, “No.”

Even with the NBA Developmental League re-branding next season as the “G” League after Gatorade bought the naming rights?

Even after the NBA lets teams sell advertising space on the upper-left corner of player’s jerseys next season?

“Rishe… doesn’t think people are going to tire of branding anytime soon,”according to the Marketplace story. “I am not concerned about the over saturation,” he said. “And I think though some purists may say that they are, let’s see how they feel two or three years from now. I doubt they’ll raise a fuss then. The sports consumer will adapt.”

Golden State Warriors’ star player Stephen Curry is nursing a Grade 1 MCL sprain and could be off the court for at least two weeks. Patrick Rishe, Olin’s director of the Business of Sports program, told CNBC that the MVP’s injury could have repercussions beyond the Warriors’ quest to defend their championship title. Curry is also Under Armour’s superstar endorser and Rishe says the sports apparel brand could feel some pain.

Ken Borkan, BSBA’10, returns to campus this week as the next guest in the Lacob Business of Sports Speaker Series, Wednesday at 8:30 a.m., in Emerson Auditorium, Knight Hall. The Olin Sports Management Organization (OSMO) hosted three Wash U. alumni involved with the NBA to discuss the modern trends facing the game, specifically in analytics.

Guest blogger: Michael Aronson is an Olin Business sophomore and serves as the President of OSMO.

The three panelists were Daniel Marcus, who serves as a Basketball Operations Analysts for the Memphis Grizzlies; Ken Borkan, who serves as a Basketball Analyst for the Phoenix Suns; and Meredith Geisler, who serves as the Vice President of Communications for the sports agency and PR firm known as Tandem Sports & Entertainment. They answered questions ranging from HGH use in the NBA to the impending rising salary cap. In addition, they gave great advice regarding how to break into the sports industry. They stressed the  importantance of networking, hard work, and passion when it comes to this business – and a touch of luck can’t hurt too!

This was certainly our largest event of the year, and it exceeded all expectations, having an amazing turnout of over 60 attendees. All of us here at OSMO are extremely excited to see what the future holds for the organization and sports business at Wash U.  A lot of people here are passionate about sports, business, and the linking of the two; and we hope to continue the growth that we have seen all throughout the past year!
