Overview

SaaS, PaaS, IaaS for E-commerce or E-commerce for SaaS, PaaS, IaaS both can have symbiotic relationship for fueling the growth in the coming years, Want to know more, here’s HOW?

It is very evident that cloud is taking control over the industry IT services, recently GE has announced that it will move 70% of its existing application to cloud. This it-self is a huge win for industry as players like GE has global consumer base for various domains be it healthcare, aviation, Finance, Oil and Gas etc. A lot is there that can be encashed from usage of cloud offering with SaaS, PaaS and IaaS especially when we have big player like Oracle having special focus on the cloud.

Cloud has got a very much important role in the easy availability of SaaS, PaaS and IaaS for e.g. Amazon AWS which itself is revolutionizing the industry.

Leveraging SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS for e-commerce solution

With the proposed growth of E-commerce across globe to be $1,506 (USD) billion by 2018, there lies huge potential in the usage of SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS for quicker E-commerce solution (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS for e-commerce). The standard packaged E-commerce website solution based on leveraging the cloud based SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS will result in huge benefits (Shortening the effort estimate required for bringing the E-commerce website live along with the future upkeep and maintenance) to the E-commerce industry as well to the IT industry as well, though this can be certainly packaged with other value added services like SEO optimization and other related features.

Leveraging E-commerce Platform for selling SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS

Another revolutionizing aspect can be usage of popular E-commerce platforms (E-commerce for SaaS, PaaS, IaaS) for selling the SaaS, PaaS and IaaS. This way IT industry can make use of the rise of e-commerce for retails sales and this can be used as additional channel for sales.

The selling itself can be workflow based on approval and regular checkout feature which is normal facility from the e-commerce players. This should really help in value addition for the SaaS, PaaS and IaaS offering from the vendors where they can package the same with value added service like end to end consulting or assessment of the requirement from the customer. This can be a bundled pricing or someone may opt to provide it as a free pre-sales service.

Beer is a serious business. And we’re not just talking about having a few pints at the local pub. Graduate students in the supply chain management degree program studied the beer industry as part of a research project last semester for ABInBev in conjunction with Olin’s Boeing Center for Technology, Information and Manufacturing (BCTIM).

Masters in Supply Chain Management students Yucong Li, Weiyi Tang, Pu Zhang, and Junyan Zhang, MBA student Chris Walling and operations management Ph.D. student Seung Hwan Jung, under the active supervision and expert advice of the BCTIM Director and professor of supply chain management, Dr. Panos Kouvelis, engaged in a logistics efficiencies improvement project with global brewer, ABInBev.

The team provided solutions to improve operations logistics between the brewer, their contracted trucking companies, and the network of their wholesalers in a project entitled “Shipment Optimization at AB/InBev”. The team’s recommendations and spreadsheet tools, after implementation by the company, will result in higher shipment volumes on any given day without the need for increased trucking capacities, and with potential labor cost reduction at the shipping docks.

BCTIM_BugPreparing professionals for key supply chain positions is a BCTIM priority. BCTIM’s experiential opportunities via mini-consulting projects with its member companies are grooming the next generation of supply chain leaders from Olin Business School’s Master of Science in Supply Chain Management (MSSCM) and MBA students specializing in operations management and supply chains. The students on each mini-consulting team tackle critical technology, information and supply chain issues, and work to find innovative solutions to member companies’ operational and management challenges.

Five to seven student teams are assembled each semester to tackle research projects with BCTIM’s key member companies like Monsanto, BE Aerospace, Boeing, Edward Jones, Emerson, Sigma Aldrich and more.
