Olin Executive Programs and Johnna Beckham, EMBA 39, co-hosted a booth at the the St. Louis Business Journal’s 10th Annual Women’s Conference, held at Union Station Double Tree Hotel in downtown St. Louis on Friday, January 30.  LadieseditedJohnna launched her custom suit line, Johnna Marie, at the conference.

About the idea, Johnna said, “I had a suit custom made in China when my class went for the global residency, and it was ok, but when I got home I couldn’t find anyone who was doing that in the US. Now I know why–it’s hard!”

Executive Program staffers working at the conference booth wore Johnna Marie suits, a living fashion show of the line. The entire ordering process can be completed online, or individual help is also available.

Olin kicked off its annual United Way campaign with a big goal and an enthusiastic call to action from Al Kent, Director of the Olin/United Way Board Fellows Program and Adjunct Professor of Accounting. United Way is truly changing and improving lives in our community.

Kent told a gathering of faculty and staff at a lunch kick off meeting, “Giving back to our community is a responsibility and a privilege for those of us who are able. The amount you may decide to give is not the important factor, rather, your participation is what is critical. Working together we can continue to improve the lives of those in our community, many of those people are right here among us.”

The Annual Ice Cream Social is a tradition that few can resist at Olin. Faculty and staff are encouraged to bring their children to enjoy the afternoon affair complete with Cake Walks, music, a strolling magician, the famous balloon lady, and a table full of toppings for your scoop of chocolate or vanilla! This year, an Italian ice truck also offered its frozen shaved ice with sweet syrups. Happy Summer!!

Olin’s Office of Corporate Relations (OCR) hosted a baby shower in honor of two of its three staff members today. OCR’s Iwona Ivanov has been on maternity leave for two-and-a-half months and introduced her son, Hugo, to colleagues for the first time. Hugo was a perfect gentleman during the lunchtime celebration. He allowed delighted staffers to take turns holding him as he heard them say silly things in English – a foreign language for the infant polyglot. At home, Hugo communicates with his parents in French, Polish, and Bulgarian.
