A candy necklace instead of a red ribbon was cut to celebrate the opening of the Bear-y Sweet Shoppe, the newest student-owned and operated business on campus. Four Olin undergrad women (all experienced entrepreneurs), got the idea for the new venture a year ago. After months of honing their business plan and managing a multitude of logistics required to open the first student-run consumer food business on campus, the Shoppe opened on schedule Jan. 12. Supporters and investors were invited to the celebration Jan. 16.

Watch our video and read more in The Record about the Shoppe team’s drive and determination to create a successful startup.  Congratulations to the team, pictured above, from left to right: Jessica Landzberg, Mary-Brent Brown, Kailey Dreyfus, and Shea Gouldd.

Four undergraduate women are set to make history when they open the first all female student-owned startup on campus and the first business to sell food in a Wash U Student Entrepreneurial Program (StEP) storefront on the South 40. After nearly a year of planning, the Bear-y Sweet Shoppe team has launched a Kickstarter campaign with a goal of $7,000. The new venture will sell candy by weight and feature timeless favorites such as gummi bears, caramels, peanut butter-chocolate meltaways, nuts, and more.

Meet the entrepreneurs (who all started successful businesses in high school), in the video below. Check out their Kickstarter video where you can donate and help them reach their goal to launch the Bear-y Sweet Shoppe in time for the first day of classes, second semester, in January 2015.
