Louisville, Ky., February 27, 2013 – For her outstanding efforts both at the plate and in the circle this past weekend, Washington University in St. Louis freshman pitcher/infielder Brooke Hofer has been selected as the Louisville Slugger National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III National Player of the Week, as announced Wednesday by the Association.
Hofer hit .643 (9-for-14) with six RBIs and recorded a multi-hit game in all four wins for Washington University at the Rhodes College Lynx Classic in Memphis. She went a combined 4-for-6 with two runs scored and an RBI in two wins Saturday, and bettered her performance the following day.
Hofer went 2-for-5 with a run scored and a career-high four RBIs in a 13-7 win against Rhodes, and followed with a 3-for-3 performance and was on base four times in a 7-2 win over Transylvania University Sunday.
Hofer, the reigning University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week, also posted a 1-0 record with a 2.42 earned run average on the mound in 8 2/3 innings pitched. She struck out two and did not allow a hit in two innings in relief against Transylvania Saturday, and allowed six hits and three earned runs in 6 2/3 innings pitched against Rhodes Sunday.
Washington University is off to a 4-0 start for the second-straight year and eighth time in school history. The Bears return to action with four games at the Hendrix College Warrior Spring Fling Saturday-Sunday, March 2-3, in Conway, Ark. Washington U. takes on the host Hendrix Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by a 2 p.m. contest with Austin College.
