The 2014 edition of the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings places Olin among the top undergraduate business schools in the U.S. with significant gains in all categories.

Best Undergraduate Business Programs  #13

Entrepreneurship #15

Finance  #15

Management  #21

Marketing  #16

Washington University ranked #14 out of the 270 National Universities in the country that U.S. News ranked. National Universities are defined as schools that strongly emphasize research and provide a full range of undergraduate, master’s and Ph.D. programs.

Significant changes were made to the ranking methodology this year, but there was little movement among the highest-ranked schools. However, after a two-year tie with Harvard University, Princeton University is now the sole No. 1 National University in the country.

With nine highly ranked schools, California has the most top schools in one state and is the only West Coast state that is home to top 50 National Universities. On the East Coast, Massachusetts and New York trail close behind with seven and six universities, respectively. Twenty-eight states do not have a school in the top 50.

Olin tied with Brandeis University for the best program in the U. S. in the 2013 Financial Times ranking of Masters in Finance (pre-experience) programs. Only four American schools are included in the survey that is dominated by the European schools.

Olin ranked #23 when matched with 40 schools worldwide. Visit www.ft.com/reports for more information on the rankings.

As news spread about Olin’s #4 ranking in the new Bloomberg Businessweek survey released March 20, Twitter and Facebook were buzzing with congratulations and expressions of pride in our undergrad program.

Dean Gupta marked the jump in the rankings by ordering giant cakes and some savory snacks for undergrads in Simon Hall on Thursday afternoon.

Chancellor Wrighton talks to Olin undergrads about their program’s #4 ranking in the latest Bloomberg Businessweek survey.

Chancellor Mark Wrighton stopped by and told students, faculty and staff gathered in the undergrad lounge that,  “it’s always nice when a third party recognizes something we’ve known all along…you’re the best!”

The Chancellor said he also expects Olin’s undergrads – who can boast the highest SAT scores of all the business school students in the nation – to continue to succeed and exceed expectations in their college and post-graduation careers.

Pressue is on…swallow that cake and get back to the library!

Washington University in St. Louis’ Olin Business School jumped four spots to #4 overall in the Best Undergraduate Business Schools ranking published March 20 by Bloomberg Businessweek.

Olin’s move from #8 to #4 is due to superior student satisfaction and top marks from students in both teaching and academic services. Other criteria that contributed to Olin’s rise to the ranks of the top five best undergraduate business schools include:

  • #1 rank feeder school to top MBA programs
  • Highest average SAT scores of all schools in survey
  • #6 in student satisfaction and student/faculty ratio
  • #8 in the nation in terms of median starting salary
  • “A+” grade for teaching, facilities and services from student survey
  • “A” grade for job placement from student survey

“We are very proud of this recognition that reflects the accomplishments of our undergraduate students, faculty, staff, and career services,” said Mahendra Gupta, dean and the Geraldine J. and Robert L. Virgil professor of accounting and management at Olin Business School.

Olin undergraduates enjoy one of the highest job placement rates with 98% receiving job offers within three months after graduation.  The average job placement rate across all schools in the Businessweek survey is 76%.

U.S. News & World Report released its graduate school rankings this week and all three of Olin’s MBA programs moved up to secure spots in the top 25.
