“The all day event for Women’s Empowerment is designed to encourage WashU women and women in the St. Louis community to be their best selves and encourage and empower each other to do the same,” says Ellen Kaushansky, a member of the team of undergrad women organizing the Own It summit.

The summit will consist of five speaker panels featuring successful women from all different areas of the working world, as well as four breakout sessions that will focus on key topics and allow attendees to interact with both the session leaders and one another.

Among the 20 women scheduled to participate in the Summit in Knight Hall and Bauer Hall are:

  • Sandra Stern, President of the Lionsgate Television Group
  • Michelle B. Larson, PhD, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Adler Planetarium
  • Elizabeth (Betsy) Kauffman is a structural design engineer and Engineering Technical Lead at Phantom Works, Boeing
  • Nina Roth, Senior Director Marketing ESPN
  • Lori Lee, senior executive vice president and global marketing officer of AT&T Inc.
  • Laura Meckler, national political correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, covering the 2016 presidential campaign.

See the complete list of speakers and schedule on the OWN IT website.

OWN it logoThe goal of the summit according to organizers is, “to connect high-powered women looking to reach out to younger women who are extremely receptive to this kind of advice and encouragement. By bringing together these like-minded women, we believe all attendees will leave with knowledge and leadership skills to amplify their personal and professional success.”

The WahU summit will be a branch of Georgetown’s original Georgetown Women in Leadership (GUWIL), started in 2014 by Kendall Ciesemier and Helen Brosnan. The organizers hope to launch a summit so successful that it will become an annual event here at WashU, as has become the case with Georgetown’s summit.
