It’s called The Murmuration Festival – named after the beautiful shapes and patterns that flocks of starlings form in flight – and it’s taking off in the Central West End’s Cortex district Sept. 23-25.
“The Murmuration Festival will explore the interwoven patterns that develop when science, technology, art and music collide,” according to a news release.
“This is an opportunity for us to create a truly unique event for St. Louis.” said Brian Cohen, one of the founders of the LouFest Music Festival who is co-founding the new festival with Dennis Lower, Cortex CEO. “We will challenge people intellectually and stimulate them creatively. It will be exciting to experience the synergy when all of these elements come together.”
“When I came to St. Louis five years ago I was immediately impressed with the abundance of cultural, creative and intellectual assets housed in the region,” said Lower. “Mumuration is a time-out for St. Louisans to smell the roses and celebrate the goodness of what we do and explore the interactions between science, technology, art, and music.”
The core organizing team includes Phyllis Ellison (Cortex), Jessica Labozzetta (Venture Cafe), Chris Ruzicka (TechShop), Travis Sheridan (Venture Cafe), and Dougan Sherwood (CIC), and was hailed by city officials.
“Community building is more than bricks and mortar,” Alderman Joseph Roddy said. “It includes occasions like Murmuration that bring people together to enjoy one another, be stimulated by new ideas, and celebrate life in the city.”
Full details about speakers, musicians, artists, and additional festival program elements will be revealed in the coming months. Tickets will be available in the spring.
